SCH2 provides mandatory auditor training for CBs through an initial two‑day course and an annual refresher event. The program covers all aspects relevant to the SCH2 EU RFNBO VCS scope, including technical requirements, regulatory updates, and practical auditing methodologies. This training keeps the SCH2 guidelines current across its respective VCSs. The initial training is delivered over two days, with theoretical and practical components to ensure comprehensive coverage. After the initial training, Certification Body auditors must pass a qualifying exam to demonstrate competence in the technical area(s) they will audit.
The qualifying exam is an online written exam covering theory and practical auditing skills related to the SCH2 EU RFNBO VCS; a passing grade of ≥ 80% is required. Only auditors who pass are authorized to perform audits under the voluntary scheme.
In addition, CCEE hosts a CB Working Group and periodic update briefings for CBs and auditors under SCH2. Auditors must complete a 6‑hour annual refresher to maintain current knowledge of the regulatory framework and best practices. Refresher courses include updated case studies, regulatory changes, and findings from internal monitoring. SCH2 tracks active auditors’ training status in a central registry (attendance, exam results, refresher completion). CBs must ensure their auditors remain current with these requirements.
In the training, CBs will be introduced to the following aspects of SCH2:
I. Presentation of the entire operation of SCH2 and its respective VCSs;
II. Overview of SCH2 operations and the appropriate control platforms;
III. General documentation of the management system (manuals, policies, responsibilities);
IV. Control of documents and records;
V. Analysis of the management system by the managing bodies;
VI. Conducting internal audits and internal control;
VII. Procedures to identify and manage non‑conformities;
VIII. Procedures aimed at implementing preventive measures to eliminate causes of possible non‑conformities;
IX. Technical auditing requirements specific to the SCH2 EU RFNBO VCS (GHG calculations, energy qualification, chain of custody);
X. Risk‑based auditing methodologies and sampling strategies;
XI. Guidance on ensuring auditor independence, impartiality, and compliance with conflict‑of‑interest policies.
SCH2 also provides ongoing guidance to CBs on the certification process, including regulatory updates, insights from internal monitoring, and best practices for effective audits
